Good old Serg stated that the 2017 Wrangler may leave the Toledo production facility, and the city leaders, union members and the local news have collectively lost their minds. This, after repeated statements by Fiat/Chrysler execs that the Wrangler is one of the most important cars in their lineup and they have no plans on moving production.
From Car & Driver "Also of note is Marchionne's statement to AN that pursuing aluminum construction, either solely for the body to be used with a ladder frame or for an entire unibody structure, likely would require moving production away from the Wrangler's longtime Toledo, Ohio, home: "If the solution is aluminum, then I think unfortunately that Toledo is the wrong place, the wrong setup to try and build a Wrangler, because it requires a complete reconfiguring of the assets that would be cost-prohibitive. It would be so outrageously expensive that it would be impossible to try and work out of that facility." So now, it's "trust us", overall employment will not be affected. Somehow, I have a problem with placing my trust in auto execs who hold the future of my home town in their hands.

Where would they move it to?

Maybe if they didn't charge $1200 to deliver to southern Ohio I might be moved to care. Meh

They're not actually moving anywhere. The confusion is that production will now be in Toledo, Michigan; not Toledo, Ohio. Production won't move, but Michigan will take what's rightfully theirs.

Toledo, along with the entire state of Ohio is a cesspool. Columbus being the Epicenter.
Sincerely a Michigan Resident.

Aren't Cherokees made in Toledo as well?
If that's the case, not that big of a deal as they will still need to build a ton of them. 2017 time frame should be a mid-cycle refresh for the Cherokee anyways.

I mean, Toledo fits right in with Detroit and Flint, so you're not entirely wrong. But man, it's been nearly two hundred years. It's time to let it go.

My guess would be somewhere near where they can get aluminum cheaply.

Have they ever produced Wranglers/CJ outside of Toledo OH? I guessing there's some off shore assembling in Asia or South America, but in the states?

Probably a freshly constructed or reconstructed plant that is optimized for the changes, which could be in Toledo, but maybe not. When he says "Toledo" I think he means the building, not the city.
If they choose to do that, I'd think another vehicle would move into the current Toledo plant.

However you have been sullied by Ohio and therefore cannot come back to Michigan.

Yes but I pay a shit-ton of income taxes to Michigan and spend a lot of personal income there...
So, no citizenship but a workers visa.

Oh you work in Michigan? In that case we may make an exception...
